Online Trumpet Classes With Robert Levy

A Proven System of Learning — Devised by a Master Teacher With Hundreds of Students

Real progress on trumpet comes from personal, immediate feedback — not an app, and not a pre-recorded course. Every class here is live, online, and built around where you actually are as a player, whether that's your first month with the horn or your tenth year working on technique.

Every player gets past their fears and quickly gains confidence, exploring a fresh, proven approach to learning that brings real joy back into their playing.

Find Your Track

🎺 Beginners
Ages 9 to Adult

Never played before, or picking the horn back up after years away? This track starts from the fundamentals — how to hold the trumpet, correct fingering, and sound, breathing, basic technique — and builds steadily, with no prior experience assumed.

We'll work on:

  • Basic techniques
  • Rhythm
  • Increasing range
  • Sight reading
  • Music chosen for your level

🎺 Intermediate / Advanced
Played 3 Years or More

Already have your fundamentals in place? We'll refine your sound, expand your range and endurance, and take on more demanding repertoire — matched to where you actually are, not a generic curriculum.

🎺 Jazz Trumpet: Beginning Improvisation
For players ready to move beyond the written page

Improvising can feel intimidating, even for players with solid technique — the moment you start, there's no part to hide behind, and most people freeze. This track solves exactly that, with a step-by-step approach built from decades of teaching musicians how to actually hear and play over basic chord changes, not just memorize scales.

Special Track: Adults Only — available for adult learners who'd rather not keep pace with kids in a mixed group — just focused, respectful instruction paced for where you are.

Choose Your Format

  • Individual Lessons — fully personalized, one-to-one, the fastest way to make real progress
  • Group Lessons — learn alongside other players at a similar stage; great for accountability

Half-hour sessions work well for most students; two sessions can be combined for a full hour if you'd prefer.

Your Teacher: Robert Levy

Robert Levy's musical life has crossed diverse avenues and boundaries and created a vibrant, fulfilling, and rewarding life. As a trumpet performer, conductor, teacher, composer, and recording artist, his influence has been felt throughout the United States and beyond.

His more than fifty recordings on ten labels are a testament to his work. He has been at the forefront of contemporary music, premiering more than one hundred works, many written expressly for him. His nearly forty-year teaching career as a college professor — including twenty-five years at Lawrence University, eight years at St. Mary's College of Maryland, and a visiting professorship at the University of Wisconsin–Madison — has brought him into contact with thousands of students and musicians.

He's led a parallel life as a jazz artist, big band leader, and recording artist alongside his classical career — bringing composers Gunther Schuller, Alec Wilder, and Eric Ewazen directly into the classroom to work with his students. As he puts it:

“It was simply a fascination with a multitude of musical directions which led me to explore many paths.”

That same range — classical and jazz, performance and composition — is exactly what he brings to every class.
